When I was asked what I thought about the idea of a 'luxury cellular blanket' I was a little stumped. I thought about it for a second, and realised I quite like the thought of 'luxury' anything. In fact, 'luxury' might just be my favourite word. A salesman's dream you could say...but really, I mean how luxurious can a cellular blanket be, they're all the same right? Wrong!
I am so impressed by this super duper soft and cosy version of the traditional baby blanket, let me tell you why. The ethos behind the brand is that cellular blankets are the only blankets recommended for newborn babies (the ones that hospitals use). They have small holes in them and keep your baby warm without the danger of them overheating. The clever 'cell' construction traps air to keep your baby warm in winter and cool in summer.
The Abeille Cellular Blanket was created by two mums who set out to transform the cellular blanket using a carefully selected colour palette, making it a generous size, by increasing the weight to make it bouncy and by making it noticeably softer on baby's skin, and they've succeeded in all of the above.
Each blanket comes in a nice brown card box (so would make a lovely gift) and a lot of thought has gone into the packaging. I particularly like the washing care instructions. True that!
When you open it you feel how incredibly soft it is straight away. It feels as light as a traditional cellular, but much fluffier and more cushioned.
I did think that it would lose this softness in the wash, as so many blankets do. Again, I was pleasantly surprised. It came out lovely and bouncy and still noticeably different to the other cellular blankets I have. Here's a picture of it next to another blanket. Both are fresh off the washing line.
You can see the weave is much looser, giving it a bouncy feel, but it's just as lightweight and breathable...if not more so. We went for white, but the pastel shades are so pretty too. It's a good size for the cot or pram and would make a great blanket for a newborn as well as an older baby like Ollie. It certainly passed his snuggle test!
So it turns out there is such a thing as a 'luxury cellular blanket', I really wish I'd had this when my little Ollie was born. At least I'm ready for next time.
