Britax have always played a huge part in the development of car seats and safety standards but since the introduction of i-Size in 2013 we have been wanting Britax to introduce a i-Size car seat, and now it's finally here! Available from the end of September, Britax's Baby-Safe i-Size is their first ever i-Size car seat and we're sure it won’t be their last!
So let’s get into the details; the most important feature of this car seat is just how safe it is, as that’s what we want from our car seats right? The Baby-Safe passes all of the safety tests you would expect and of course has been designed with Britax’s renowned crash testing and years of research. It also fully complies with the R129 (i-Size) regulation so will be suitable from newborn until your little one reaches 15 months old.

From birth the car seat has an extra insert that will offer extra support to your newborn; this will absorb energy in case of an impact but will also give you peace of mind knowing they are snug in their seat. When you put your baby in the seat you should make sure that the head rest is just above their shoulders, if not don’t worry, the harness and headrest can be adjusted together with one hand to suit your child’s height. The harness adjustment also features Britax’s patented lie-flat technology which changes based upon the headrest height giving your newborn the best lying position.
The seat also has a 5 point harness which will keep your little one tightly in position, plus if you happen to have a collision the harness will distribute the impact across 5 points as oppose to some car seats that have a 3 point harness.

So your little one is safely fastened into the seat, now what about fitting the car seat into the car? Due to this seat being i-Size it is to be used in conjunction with the ISOFIX base and for this seat Britax has developed not one but two ISOFIX bases! The FLEX base is truly innovative and allows parents to adjust the position of the base and provide a truly flat position – this really makes a difference if the seat of your car is particularly angled.
The car seat is easily clicked on to the base and like most both bases have green indicators to show you that it is fitted correctly. The Baby-Safe i-Size also has the Side Impact Cushion Technology that we see on lots of Britax Car Seats, this adds extra protection and should be adapted on the side of the car seat which is closest to the door. If I haven’t already sold you on this wonderful car seat it also has lots of other features you would expect such as removable covers, adjustable handle, sun canopy and it can easily fit on to your chosen travel system with a set of adaptors.
Although a little late to the i-Size party, Britax have not disappointed with this latest offering and I would urge anyone looking for an infant carrier to take a look at the Baby-Safe i-Size here.
